...No really...It's Jnr
there IS always the Olympics…

After watching England get knocked out on penalties the other half says, ‘There’s always the Olympics’. I looked over to him.  One eyebrow rose wondering what he knew about it, but really he did know. In my haze of disappointment I had forgotten a simple truth.

Andy Murray and Wimbledon, who are we kidding. He is good; he has reached the final of grand slams al over the world. Problem is that he suffers from Tim Henham syndrome. Being good enough to win just not being good enough to win it on home turf. That doesn’t stop me being behind him all the way. Like all England supporters, we love to support the underdog. We aren’t the ultimate underdog but most countries write us off straight away which it their mistake.

We are however better at other sports. I have never watched the Olympics and come away disappointed with Great Britain’s performance. The facts speak for themselves. Great Britain was one of 14 teams to compete in the first Games, the 1896 Summer Olympics, and has competed at every Games. Team Great Britain has won 715 medals at the Summer Olympic Games, and another 22 at the Winter Olympic Games. Great Britain is the only team to have won at least one gold medal at every Summer Games.

So chin up, the count down to the event we excel at is nearly over. Think of Sally Gunnell, Colin Jackson, Linford Christie (minus the drug allegations) and Paula Radcliffe. Future prospects Tom Daley, Shanaze Reade, Beth Tweddle, Rebecca Adlington and many more.

So let’s not take down the union jack just yet, we do have a summer of sport and fun ahead. We have a plethora of medals to win in the greatest show on earth. Come on Team GB! *Roars like a lion!*

NB. If Andy Murray wins Wimbledon I take it all back and was always a big fan.
